Lucan Leisure Campus – Public Swimming Pool Delays –
At the September Area Committee Meeting, I joined Cllr. Caroline Brady in calling for an independent public review/inquiry into the unacceptable delays in delivering the public swimming pool at Lucan Leisure Centre.
📅 Construction began in May 2019, yet no firm opening date has been provided.
🔍 What’s happening now?
The Council has:
- Terminated the contract with PJ McLoughlin, the original contractor.
- Begun reviewing the status of key sub-contractors.
- Started preparing tender documents to appoint a new main contractor.
📌 The Chief Executive stated that a full investigation would be premature until the project is completed, as it would not give a full picture and would divert resources from finishing the build.
✅ Once the project is complete, a full review will be carried out to identify any further causes of delay and ensure lessons are learned for future projects.
💬 Myself and fellow councillors – Cllr. Brady, Cllr. Liona O’Toole, and Cllr. Joanna Tuffy – raised concerns and pushed for accountability. The motion was agreed.
Lucan deserves transparency and timely delivery of public amenities. I’ll continue to advocate for answers and progress.
